Congressional Visit to HEART
I was called by AED/USAID and told HEART was chosen for a Congressional visit! There was a Congressional Delegation visiting in Kenya and they were making a schedule for the wives of these Congressmen to see various organizations that are funded through USAID … and HEART was chosen!
We hosted the visit of the Congressional wives, USAID, US Embassy and AED (Academy of Educational Development) on 19 August 2009 and it went so well!
We worked to prepare a pleasant beautiful place for them (added sofas in our large living room, flowers in strategic places etc.) and had everything ready for their 2:15 – 2:30 visit … they arrived at 3 PM for a ½ hour meeting and stayed till about 4:30 PM!
We had a great connect and the USAID, AED and US Embassy representative was very happy! One lady whose husband is a Congressman in Georgia said, “I wish he were here. He was a GYN Doctor before he was a Congressman and he would love your work”! Another one said, “I work closely with the Presbyterian Women’s Association, and will share with them about this work”!
It could not have gone better … we had displayed our WEEP women’s products … the packages of Sanitary towels we are putting together. We had a portfolio (that Kim made for us) for each one with our HEART Wheel, HEART Fact Sheet (attached) and documents on our work and finances …we looked smart!
We had two of our WEEP Participants come and share and they did great! The women purchased a lot of the “stuff” from the ladies.
The USAID representative said, "After coming to see you yesterday at our pre-visit meeting I went back to the office this morning and told my supervisor about your work”!
I am thankful it went so well! This is another fulfillment of the word “Exposure” I felt was for HEART in 2008!
